Alex Bores was born and raised in NY-12, the district where his parents still live and where he is raising his newborn son with his wife, Darya. He went to public schools in the district: P.S. 6, Wagner Middle School, and Hunter High School.
As an Assemblymember representing portions of the East Side, Alex has been recognized by the Center for Effective Lawmaking as the most effective new legislator from NYC. He raised fines on spam telemarketers preying on seniors, protected workers’ intellectual property rights, championed moped registration to make streets safer, and reduced court backlogs by creating new judges. He also secured over $50.1 million for district organizations in 2025.
Alex is the first Democrat elected in New York State at any level with a degree in computer science. TIME magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world on artificial intelligence for passing the strongest AI safety law in the country. Before entering public office, Alex worked as a software engineer and product lead at tech companies and startups. When a company he worked for signed a new contract with ICE during Trump’s first term, Alex resigned in protest. That expertise – and fearlessness – is sorely needed in Congress.
